How CFC has changed our lives
sharing by Bro Rudy and Sis Josie Canezo, Sept 2008
(Members of Brandon’s Holy Family Household for almost a year now.)

The biggest and most significant change that happened into our lives since we joined Couples for Christ (CFC) was for our family to become practicing Christians. Prior to attending the Christian Life Program (CLP), we were just ordinary week-end Catholic observers, reverting to our normal way of life the rest of the week. While we have at least 2 Bibles at home, they remained as crisp as the day we acquired them, rarely opened and read. It was through the program that opened our minds and hearts to the real essence of our faith and the need to have a closer and deeper relationship with God.

But it was not an easy and quick process. Although my husband and I started the program together, I ended up finishing it alone. He would come up with a lot of reasons to excuse himself. After a considerable time of being a Handmaid member (a ministry for married people without their spouses), and in God’s time, he relented and started the program. And what a transformation!!! Not once did he miss any of the weekend CLP schedule, despite of previous social commitments. He took into his heart the lessons learned in those classes, the most remarkable of which is our attitude towards the Sunday obligation. It’s no longer an “obligation” literally but something you look forward to because it’s a communion with God. The Bibles are read and opened to our favorite verses and Psalms at all times in a designated place at home. Unlike before, we now try to practice in our daily lives the things that we are becoming spiritually aware of. Most importantly, even our youngest son has become involved with CFC Youth which is an excellent foundation for faith formation among his age group.

Being members of CFC is not only about praying and contemplating holy words. While the weekly household meetings, where we meet couples and families , help us to strengthen spiritually, we also have a good social interaction and a lot of physical nourishment (delicious food, of course!) It was through CFC that my husband and I learned the intricate and advance steps of cha-cha. And we are in the process of learning more! What else could you ask for? God is truly good, all the time!!!

Being closer to God is an ongoing and continuing process and we have to work hard to attain it. We still come across the same issues and problems in our life. It’s our perspective that changed completely. We eliminate the “useless anxiety” that associates with them because we know that as long as we put God in the center point of our life, we will be able to hurdle anything and are always on the right track.
